Area Birders:

Larry McDaniel was correct when he thought the Musick's Campground and area
maximum Eared Grebe count for a single day is 21 birds. That is probably
the Tennessee and Virginia state records for the largest single day counts.
The record is:

9 Oct 1996 (21) by Rob Biller, Ron Carrico, Wallace Coffey and Larry
McDaniel.

Other big count days for Eared Grebes at Musick's Campground on South
Holston Lake that I can put my hands on in a hurried review of records
include:

Found a reference without a date for up to 20 in THE MIGRANT for 1998.

2 Mar 1997 (19) Larry McDaniel and Wallace Coffey

5 Oct 1997 (19) John Shumate and others.

30 Sep 1996 (18) Wallace Coffey, Larry McDaniel.

20 Oct 1996 (18) Rob Biller, Ron Carrico, Wallace Coffey and Larry
McDaniel.

16 Oct 1996 (17) Bristol Bird Club field trip party of Janet Brown, Mark
Burkey, Emily Burkey, Larry McDaniel, Lloyd Jones, Wallace Coffey, Geoff
Larsen, Ron Carrico, Rob Biller, Richard Lewis, John Shumate, Lorri Shumate
and Anna Hess.

19 Jan 1997 (16) Rick Knight.

19 Sep 1997 (16) Wallace Coffey.

20 Oct 1997 (14) Wallace Coffey,

25 Oct 1997 (13) Larry McDaniel.

So, HA! Nine was really nothing. Sorry about that. I guess my mind is
getting in age bad my old. :-)

Let's go birding.....
