A Red-necked Grebe was found near Musick's Campground at South Holston Lake
this morning (3/16) just before noon.

The bird was seen in both the Tennessee and Virginia portions of the lake
but was last observed in the mouth of the Spring Creek Embayment near the
large house to the left of Washington County Park.

Virgil Car, Carolyn Coffey and Wallace Coffey found the bird.

Also seen were 9 Horned Grebes (one in almost complete breeding plumage),
Common Loon 1, Pied-billed Grebe 4, Ring-billed Gull 7 and Mallard 3.

At the small pond on Painter Creek Road leading towards the Virginia
stateline and Mock Knob, a female Hooded Merganser was hiding among the
vegetaion.

About a dozen Ring-necked Ducks were at Middlebrook Lake.
