Saturday (Mar 15) is our regularly scheduled weekend birding outing
for the Blue Ridge Birders group.  Today, Allen Boynton, Katherine
Higgins, John McConnell, Scott Jackson-Rickets and I visited a few
birding spots in our Blue Ridge birding area. Our first stop was at
Whitetop Station where the winter time birding is still in full force,
nothing of note was found there.  Our next stop was at Rural Retreat
Lake where very little was found other than the 1st Lesser Yellowlegs
of the year for all of us.  Our next stop was Crawfish Valley, which
is north of Interstate 81 at exit 60.  On our way into the valley we
found a very unusual partial albino American Robin.  This bird was
about 3/4 white with the exception of the yellow bill and a touch of
rufous on the breast, with spots of dark brown on the back.  Going on
into Crawfish Valley we found several Red-shouldered and Red-tailed Hawks.
On the way out of the valley, back towards the interstate, we spotted a
Golden Eagle being harassed by a couple of crows.  All in all not a lot of
migration birds are in yet, but what we saw indeed made a good birding day.
