Area Birders,
Eight members of the Buchanan County Bird Club birded Burkes Garden in
Tazewell County today. With bright sunlight and temperatures in the sixties
it was a great day to be out.
No Golden Eagles to be found, but 4 Rough-legged Hawks, 15 Red-tails, 1
American Kestrel, 17 Turkey Vultures and 3 Black Vultures were the raptors
making a showing. As for waterfowl the most striking were the 9 Green-winged
Teal found on a small stream. 2 Black Ducks and 29 Mallards were feeding in
the shallow water ponds. 1 Horned Lark was seen but others were heard.
In addition to the birds several deer were found as well as a Muskrat, a
Red-Fox, Woodchucks and 1 bat.
