Bristol Birders,
Ed Talbott and Larry Ramey (Buchanan County Bird Club
members) made quick stops by Musick's Campground and the Weir Dam
today after attending the Internet conference in Abingdon. As Rick
Knight reported earlier, the Eared Grebes were making their way up
and down the lake in plain view from the point. We also noted
Pied-billed Grebe (2), American Wigeon (4), Lesser Scaup (10),
Canada Goose (9), Ring-billed Gull (26), Ring-necked Duck (10+),
American Coot (14), and Blue-winged Teal (3) but missed the
Gadwalls, Green-winged Teal, and Mergansers. At the Weir Dam we
noted American Wigeons (10), Bufflehead (75+), Ring-necked Duck (3),
Pied-billed Grebe (2), Mallard (7), and Canada Goose (5).
Sunday, BCBC members Ed and Michelle Talbott birded the
Breaks Park in Buchanan/Dickenson County. At Laurel Lake we spotted
Wood Ducks (9), Lesser Scaup (22), Ring-necked Ducks (14 - 2 male
and 12 female), and Hooded Mergansers (3). On the flooded golf
course at Willowbrook County Club in Buchanan County we counted 42
Ring-billed Gulls. We also got some good looks at both the
Red-tailed Hawk and the Red-shouldered Hawk.
