Today, Sat. Mar. 16, while on a family birding trip around the S. =
Holston lake area we again failed to identify a Common Loon, a would be =
life bird. We did, however, enjoy a large (70) flock of Lesser Scaup, 8 =
Pied-billed Grebe, 200ish Ring-billed Gull, 3 Horned Grebe (Life =
birds!), 1 Great Blue Heron and 1 unidentified distant bird (A. Coot?) =
from Musicks Campground. The usual were at the wier dam to include =
Bufflehead and A. Wigeon, Mallard and C. Goose on the water and notables =
ashore were Brown Creepers, Ruby-crowned Kinglets and a number of Downy =
Woodpeckers. A very fine view of the Red-headed Woodpecker at B.C. =
Hwy/V.I. Ranch Rd. was had by the whole family from the church lot.
Good Birding
