Sunday Audrey Hoff and I added a couple of annual tics to the list, 
beginning at the VA theatre in Johnson City, where a Barn Owl obligingly 
peered down at us from his usual perch.
We then drove to Bristol and found the Red-headed Woodpecker reported by 
Larry McDaniel and Wallace Coffey at the woodlot on the northeast corner 
of Bristol Caverns Highway and VI Stables Roads. This is actually a 
private residence, but we pulled up in the church parking lot across the 
street, behind a guard rail so it wouldn't appear we were pointing 
binoculars at these people's home, and waiting for movement in the 
trees. Within a few minute he flew into a beech snag to our left.
Musick's Campground failed to give up the Eastern Screech-Owl in his box 
at 3 p.m., nor any grebes, but I did catch a Tree Swallow over the lake 
waters right on the state boundary between VA and TN. Tic and tic!
