The Bristol Bird Club held its third Friday in February meeting at the ETSU
Bristol Center tonight with a nice turnout on hand to hear Park Naturalist
Larry McDaniel present a power point program about the birds of Steele
Creek Park. The group included 25 birders, with a little over half attending
dinner.

Nora Schubert, ecologist with the Southern Appalachian Highlands
Conservancy, reported that she had recently applied for a grant that would
help involved more young people with nature. One focus of the program would
be to create a way to partner young people with nature support groups.

While her presentation was a "heads up" on what could be coming in the future,
members of the BBC decided not to wait to make a commitment to the project.
The club voted to pledge its support now. It agreed to become an active
partner. The activies will be center at Roan Mountain.

Vice President John Moyle passed out a list of BBC Field Trips for 2007-2008.
A new feature includes four field trips offered for "beginners" and open to the
public. He also reported on investigations for a possible pelagic birding trip
off the Atlantic coast.

President Dave Worley reported that the summer picnic will be held July 26
which is a later date than in the past so everyone needs to mark calendars
now.

Bill Grigsby said Ward's Seed Store in Kingsport has again
agreed to sponsor the BBC event at FunFest . The festival begins July 8
and the BBC has been leading field trips for the public.

It was reported that 21 persons participated in the Kingsport CBC. Club
treasure Janice Martin said after the meeting that checks have now
been written for the participant fees for each of four counts sponsored by
BBC.

The club's financial reports show a balance of $1,259 before the Kingsport
CBC check was written and a liability of more than $700 for state bird club
fees to the Tennessee Ornithological Society and the Virginia Society of
Ornithology.

McDaniel reported that the Steele Creek Park Nature Center will have a
public bird box building workshop on Feb. 29 with Bristol Bird Club member
Ron Harrington assisting the project.

Don Holt reminded everyone that the Elizabethton Bird Club will hold a field
trip
Saturday staring at 7:00 AM with breakfast at Bob Evans Restaurant near
the Boones Creek Exit off of Interstate 26. Destinations after breakfast:
"Out there, somewhere" and to be decided. Don can be reached at
(423) 483-0470.
