Bill Grigsby and I were present at Oak Hill Cemetery in north Kingsport this
afternoon around 5:00 pm when one of the merlins which have been wintering
here since October showed up. It was the larger and more brown of the pair
and we have been calling this one a female. We have also seen a smaller,
more bluish-backed bird with bright orange legs that we have been calling a
male. We didn't see this bird today, but we both had to leave before sunset
and he may have arrived after we left. The birds can be seen at Oak Hill
Cemetery most every day near sunset, and occasionally at other times of the
day. Last year the birds were not seen after mid-March.
