[Bristol-Birds] Gone but not forgotten

a.. To whom it may concern:
I have a very slow computer and it would take three weeks to say what I would
like to
about Mr. Wallace.
His knowledge of things from ferns to salamanders to animals is astounding.
His memory is better than an elephant. I spent 5 years in the military (3
tripps to
Europe and one to Pacific). I cannot remember when nor where--yet Wallace
can tell you the first Bird Cub meeting I attended, whose house it was at, the
speaker and probably the type car I was driving.
All was not a bed of roses though. We spent 3 winters trapping hawks. Rain,
sleet snow or ice did not stop him. Once he set a trap on a blind curve with
ice on
the road and stoppedd to wait for a hit. I told him to take me home, if he
wanted
to get killed that was alright with me. He did total a car once.
I am not an avid birder. If it is small and brown it is a sparrow.
If it is large and black it is a buzzard. If it is not black it is a hawk --if
large a chicken
hawk and if small a sparrow hawk.
On a few occasions i have introduced his as a speaker that is a "legend in his
own
mind".
Don,t expect him to roll over and play dead -- Carollyn-- his wife would kill
him.
