February 4, 2007
Earlier today in western Greene County:
Greater White-fronted Goose (4 on Highway 340 opposite Turner Lane)
Snow Goose (on Highway 340 opposite Turner Lane)
Gadwall (on Guinn Drive)
Northern Shoveler (on Gravel Woods Road)
Ring-necked Duck (on Guinn Drive)
Northern Harrier
Cooper's Hawk
Swamp Sparrow
Rusty Blackbird (100+ on Green Road, exhibiting at least five plumages)
Ponds are frozen over or mostly so. There is very little habitat for waterfowl
other than cornfields and similar agricultural areas. Of course, Lick Creek
and the Nolichuckey River are open, but viewing along them is very limited.
