Susan,
Thanks for the very informative info about January activity at the rookery.
Especially for the site across the channel from your house. Extended
observations and records, as you have, are very valuable. Don Miller will be
thrilled to get this information for his book. Nothing beats someone right on
the spot keeping good records. You are a rare and valuable source. Yes, keep
us all well informed from you box seat overlook. We appreciate you
tremendously.
Let's go birding.....

Subject: [Bristol-Birds] John Sevier Lake heronry
We have observed Great Blue Herons at the heronry across the channel from the
house beginning 1-22-06.
1-22-06 4 herons
1-30-06 7 herons
Late yesterday, 2-3-06 there were 5 herons actively repositioning nesting
materials.
I checked my records for 2005, and we had 5 herons in the herony on 1-17-05.
We're hoping for a successsful breeding season again this year! Will keep you
updated as the nesting season progresses. If you kayak around the point in the
channel, you certainly get a better view. If anyone is interested let me know.
We have kayaks and a canoe here for our use.
If you head down this way, feel free to stop by, and use the dock for birding
(even if we're not here). Just stick a note on the door so we know you were
here.
Our osprey hasn't made an appearance since 1-16-06. Waterfowl sightings have
been slow - pied-billed grebes, a few Gadwalls, and Mallards. The number of
species and numbers of ducks are way down from last season.
