Elizabethton Bird Club field trip to Shady Valley
Here is a brief itinerary for Saturday. The timing in the middle part is
imprecise:
11:30 am - 12 noon (Optional): I will meet any interested persons at The
Bridges Restaurant in Elizabethton for lunch.
1 pm - Circle the wagons at NE State parking lot, beside BP station, across
from airport, on Stoney Creek Rd. Organize carpool.
1:15 ish - Visit Wynnwood Wildlife Rehabilitation Center
2 - 2:15 ish - Rendezvous at silo at Shady crossroads for nabs and news.
Proceed to Quarry Bog and find scads of rare birds.
4:30 (Optional) - Meet at Cranberry Cafe at crossroads for a quick bite to
eat.
5 pm - Meet at Silo at crossroads with the Bristol Club. Proceed to Orchard
Bog for more great birds and Woodcock extravaganza.
It should start getting dark enough for woodcock around 6:30. I expect
departure time to be in the neighborhood of 7 pm for most.
I can probably be reached at 914-5862, but not always when in Shady Valley.
Bring your cellphones and personal radios, and dress warm. Nothing spoils a
good woodcock vigil like frosty fingers and toes.
If the woodcock hesitate to cooperate, be prepared to participate in a
woodcock beep and dance contest. Winner receives untold intangible rewards. :-)
