Area Birders,
Johnnie Ratliff, one of the Buchanan County Bird Club members, had a
hummingbird with a red throat at his feeder yesterday , Feb 24, 2004.He
believes the bird to be a male Ruby-throat. This is the same feeder visited
earlier in the winter by the Rufous Hummingbird for a few weeks.

The earliest record for a Ruby-throat in Buchanan County is April 6. It is
anyone's guess as to whether this bird has been hanging around somewhere in
the U.S. since fall, or is indeed a mixed up early migrant.

Enjoy the birds,

Roger Mayhorn
