I went out this morning to try some coyote hunting/birding. nothing at my
first two setups, except one sharp shinned hawk. he came flying by to the
grey fox pup distress.

At the second setup, a flock of crows were in the trees on the other side of
the field i was hunting. So i decided to have a little fun with them. i
played the desperate cottontail on my preymaster. Here came the crows. They
came in and started flying directly over top of me. Pretty loud too.
On the way to my second setup i saw a raven sitting in a poplar tree. those
things are huge compared to crows.

at my third setup, i finally hit the right place. i was sitting under a pine
tree with the wind blowing in from the left. i was overlooking a large
field. I was sitting there letting time pass to let things calm down where i
was set up. I heard a strange, jubilous, bubbling song from the middle of
the field. It was like no bird i'd ever heard before. never found out what
it was.

I started calling with my critter call standard open reed call. That thing
is loud. Not 10-15 seconds after i stopped calling i seen a gray body at the
other side of the field. A coyote. he started to come straight toward me.
when he stopped , i fired...... and missed. i think i shot over top of him.
he turned and went back the way he came. I done some challenge howls and
lonely howls in an attempt to call him back. then i threw in a few pup
whines and sqeals. another coyote came in. this one ment business. he was
coming at me almost full blast. i waited till it slowed down and i shot.
missed again. it turned and ran the length of the field, perpendicular to
me. i led him.. boom, led him.. boom, led him .. boom. I MISSED EVERY
SHOT!!. lol. well, at least they were clean misses. im glad i didnt injure
either of the coyotes. I think there's another Crapshooter on Predator
Masters.

The first coyote that came in was solid gray. Just about the color of my
.270. The second coyote that came in was a little bigger. It was like a
calico color; light and dark brown, gray, black, white. I think they were a
breeding pair, the smaller gray one being a female and the larger calico
being a male.

Had a great day.
