Area Birders,
Yesterday, while sitting at the computer, I looked out the window to see our
resident male Red-bellied Woodpecker getting a drink from our heated
birdbath. Bluebirds, Goldfinches, House Finches, White-throated and Song
Sparrows use it, but this was a first for the woodpecker.

Of course I grabbed my camera and took a few shots. For those interested
here is a link to a couple of them.

The birdbath is a simple deal with a flat plate-like bath sitting atop a
terra cotta flower pot. I found the design on the internet. The flower pot
has a flood light inside with the electrical cord running out of a hole in
the bottom. The cord is plugged into an outlet with a ground-fault breaker
for safety. The heat from the flood light keeps the water from freezing. You
can see the heater parts in our January newsletter. Just click on the link
below. When you bring up the newsletter, scoll down the page until you see
the article. http://www.bcplnet.org/birdclub/newsletters/Jan04NL.htm

Enjoy the birds,
