Greetings Bristol Area Birders from the Holy City of Damascus!

On Wednesday Wallace Coffey and myself birded the Bristol area. Starting
promptly at 9 AM, we birded S Holston wier dam where we were treated to 8
American Widgeons, about 20 Bufflehead along with around 50 mallards.

On our way to Middlebrook Lake we observed 4 Green-winged Teal. They were
seen at Trammel Lane, near Middlebrook Lake, Bristol, TN same place they've
been since mid-December and found on Bristol Christmas Bird Count. We were
successful in photographing one male teal and it can be seen at
http://www.adventuredamascus.com/adventure/adventurefolder/birdofnote.html
with remarks by Wallace describing the field marks of the bird.

We proceeded to Middlebrook where we saw a few Loons and a Grebe or 2.
Nothing to write home (or to this list) about. Kind of slow at Middlebrook.
Next we visited Steele Creek Park. We observed 2 E. Phoebes, one at Rooster
Front Park, the other along the lake. Of note also was a Pied-bill Grebe
resting on a log out of the water. This is of note at they are rarely out of
the water and Wallace, in all his years of birding has never seen that.

We saw one Red-breasted Nuthatch along the shore of the lake along with the
usual Chickadees, Juncos, Titmice and Cardinals.
After Lunch we birded Boone Lake which was relatively unproductive except
for a few Grebes and a Yellow-rumped Warbler.

Toward the end of the day we realized we hadn't looked for the Red-breasted
Merganser that Kevin Hamed reported on Tuesday, so off we went back to
Steele Creek. The RBM was right where he said it was, near the Nature
Center. Foundered by too much pizza, we were to lazy to get the scope and
camera back out, so sadly I don't have a photo. But you should get over to
see this bird if you haven't already.

All in all, a great day (again) in the field. Come visit me in Damascus! And
thanks Wallace!
