I spent much of today out birding, starting in Unicoi County and working my way
back to Greene. Despite gusting wind for much of the time, I was fortunate to
find several notable species. An abbreviated list includes the following:
Gadwall (65 Greene);
American Wigeon (Greene);
American Black Duck (11 Greene);
Northern Shoveler (3 Gravel Woods Road (Greene));
Northern Pintail (3 Wal-Mart Distribution Center (Greene));
Green-winged Teal (2 Unicoi, 1 Greene);
Ring-necked Duck (5 Greene);
Hooded Merganser (2 Gravel Woods Road (Greene));
Wild Turkey (34 Greene);
Pied-billed Grebe (2 Erwin Linear Park (Unicoi));
Northern Harrier (Greene);
Sharp-shinned Hawk (Greene);
Cooper's Hawk (Washington);
Red-shouldered Hawk (1 Erwin Linear Park (Unicoi), 1 Highway 340 near Turner
Lane (Greene));
Eurasian Collared-Dove (4 adjacent to West Greene High School (Greene));
Common Raven (2 Highway 107 0.2 mile west of Pleasant Hill Road (Greene));
Horned Lark (Baughard Hill Road (Greene));
White-crowned Sparrow (6 Greene);
Purple Finch (8 Greene).
