The Bristol Bird Club had a very successful field trip to
western Washington County, TN on Saturday, 1/24/04. Twenty
birders participated. 

Highlights included a beautiful adult Peregrine Falcon
perched atop a dead tree and feeding on it's prey. We had
stopped due to Rick Knight's spotting Purple Finches. Joel
Keebler then spotted the Peregrine. All but a few who
arrived a little later took turns watching it through the
many scopes set up. Don used his skill and knowledge of the
area to lead us to nice looks at a Red-headed Woodpecker and
a Loggerhead Shrike. We had all loaded up in our cars and
were ready to call it quits when Sam Cross spotted a flock
of Horned Larks. Rick Knight quickly was able to find
Lapland Longspurs among them. We all got to view them
through scopes as well. Sorry to those who left early. At
that point we were joined by Dr. Fred Alsop and his wife
JoAnn showing up in timely fasion to see the longspurs.

Other notable birds included American Black Duck,
Ring-necked Duck, Northern Harriers (1 adult male), Cooper's
Hawk, Eastern Phoebe, Brown Creeper, Ruby-crowned Kinglet,
Palm Warbler and White-crowned Sparrows.

Participants were Janice Martin, Ruth Baker Smith, Don Holt,
Larry McDaniel, Joel Keebler, Mary Jane Erwin, Judy Roach,
Reece Jamerson, Rick Knight, Allan Kaplowitc, Kara
Kaplowitc, Greg Evans, Mike Poe, Dexter Newnan, John Adams,
Donna Adams, Rack Cross, Sam Cross, Fred Alsop and JoAnn
Alsop.

Thanks to all of those who participated in this BBC event.
