[Bristol-Birds] Spotted Sandpiper

Dr. Fred Alsop's Ornithology and Vertebrate Zoology Classes from ETSU spent all
day today birding in Sullivan and Carter Counties. Doc asked me to report our
sighting of a Spotted Sandpiper a couple of hundred yards downstream of Boone
Dam in Sullivan County about 10:30 a.m.
We visited the ponds along Rt 75 near its intersection with Rt 126 southwest of
Blountville looking for the Trumpeter Swan reported by Wallace Coffee earlier
this week, but it was not there. We got very good looks through Doc's
expensive spotting scope at the Bald Eagle sitting in a tree several hundred
yards upstream of Wilbur Dam in Carter County about 4:00 p.m.
It was a very good day of birding, especially considering the rain and gloom
all day and the especially chilly temperatures in the afternoon.
