Area Birders:

Five Sandhill Cranes are visiting a cornfield 3 miles southeast
of Chilhowie in Smyth County, VA.

Betty Edmondson from Abingdon heard about them from a friend and went to see
for herself. There were five birds and apparently have been there for at
least two weeks.

To reach the birds take the primary Chilhowie exit of I-81. Drive
approximately 3 miles southeast on Va. Rt. 762 towards St. Clair Bottom and
the South Fork Holston River. After passing an orchard, the birds are near
a low place in the road and in a corn field.

Snow flurries or snow showers are expected to bring a little less than an
inch of snow early this evening. If conditions are good, I will try and
check the birds on Monday.
