Area Birders:

The Bristol Bird Club will meet Tuesday of next week at 7:30 p.m.
at the Bristol Campus of East Tennessee State University with
Ken Dubke of Chattanooga as the speaker.

The BBC newsletter, THE EAGLE, is in production but did not
get printed and mailed Friday. Due to the late mailing date and
the fact that Monday is Martin Luther King Day and a holiday for
the post office, you will not get THE EAGLE before Tuesdays
meeting.

Schedule meetings and family events on Friday
delayed my getting the newsletter published.

Dubke, who has been a popular visitor and speaker at BBC
meetings over the years, will show a great color slide program
about the history and present efforts to develope a migratory
population of the Whooping Crane in the east. He will also
include the pictures of the great Sandhill Crane migration which
winters near Chattanooga and the thousands of birds that are
transient there.

We need to make sure we have a great turnout of BBC members
and area birders for Dubke's talk since he driving in from
Chattanooga Tuesday to deliver this talk to area birders.

Dubke will also promote the up-coming weekend where the
Chattanooga Chapter of the Tennessee Ornithological Society
and the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency are sponsoring
"An Evening For The Birds" on Friday, February 7, 2003 at
6:30 PM the Chattanooga Choo-Choo in Chattanooga, Tennessee.

A featured speaker at the fundraising event is Kenn Kaufman,
one of the world's preeminent bird experts, authors, and bird artists.
Kenn is a gifted speaker and author of several books including the
Peterson Field Guide to Advanced Birding, Kingbird Highway,
and Birds of North America. He is currently a field editor for
Audubon and a columnist for numerous magazines.

Another featured speaker at the event is Choogie Kingfisher,
traditional storyteller of the Cherokee Nation. Choogie has
received widespread recognition for his storytelling of traditional
Cherokee legends and myths. He has traveled throughout the
United States and several foreign countries practicing his craft
for over 16 years. Choogie has produced several CDs that
feature traditional Cherokee stories.

This fundraising event will kick-off the "11th Annual Cherokee
Heritage & Sandhill Crane Viewing Days" at Birchwood,
Tennessee, February 8 & 9, 2003. Proceeds from the event
will benefit ongoing bird conservation efforts at the Hiwassee
Refuge and the Cherokee Memorial, on Chickamauga
Reservoir near Birchwood. Click here for more information about
the events on February 8 & 9.

Admission is $15.00 and includes a ticket to sample desserts
donated from restaurants throughout the Chattanooga area.
There will also be a silent auction. To purchase tickets, call
Clyde Blum at (423) 886-4130. For lodging, the Chattanooga
Choo-Choo is offering a special $69 rate for a king or double
room. Call 1-800-872-2529 by January 15, 2003 and mention TOS.

Hope to see you all there.....
