Another new member asking about rockbox. I am considering getting an ipod and installing rockbox. I have read the manual on the 60 gig vidio for rockbox. However I am wanting to ask someone who actually uses it how much functionality I will have. Adapting will not be a problem I am a fairly advanced computer user. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Woody Anna Dresner" <wadresner@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx>

Hi Cheryl,

If you want the player to accommodateexternal memory, the iPod isn't what you want; all the memory is built in. It is possible to navigate an iPod without Rockbox by counting clicks as you go through the menus. You can simplify the main menu by removing options you don't use. The biggest problem is that if you have lots of music on it, it can take a while to find what you want because titles and artist names aren't spoken.

HTH,
Anna

Subject: [blindipod] suggestions?

Hi Everyone.
I'm Cheryl, and I've just joined the list.
My RCA Lyrah's headphone jack is messed up, and I've been wanting a
new mp3 player for a while now. Note: I'm in canada, so I'd like to
be able to purchase here if possible.
If I were to get another flash player, it should have the following things:
1. at least one gig of internal memory, but bigger is good too.
2. Ability to use external memory, sd cards preferably, any capacity,
but the bigger the player takes, the better.
3. Mid-track resume feature.
4. Support for playlists.

Now, a question about ipods other than the shuffle. Does anyone use
any of the ipods without rockbox, and if so, how do you go about it?
As much info as you can give me would be great. My sighted friend has
a four gig nano, I think one of the newer ones but I'm not sure, and
i'd love to be able to use one, too.
If this subject has been killed already, appologies, anyone can write
me off list with info.
Thanks,
Cheryl
