Ron,
Can you tell me where to get the joiner you mentioned?
Thanks to Brian for offering up his own competition on his web site, but I
have
an alternative to mention to folks:
I could not get the current scripts to work with the current I-Tunes (not
well
anyway), on a Thinkpad, which had to be run at a resolution higher than
800x600
as was recommended.
Despite the scripts difficulties, which never were resolved (they often just
did
not perform as the docs said, and getting the currently highlighted item to
read, even after setting the colors, was the biggest issue), I simply
disliked
the I-Tunes interface.
So, I went and got a copy of the Anapod demo, and the rebuild.exe utility
mentioned by Brian on his site.
These two items together let me, so far, use my shuffle without difficulty.
I can copy all the mp3 files I want directly into a dir on the shuffle, run
rebuild, and I'm up and listening without even using Anapod at all!
There are times when I do have to use it, but it's generally much more
accessible than I-Tunes, but of course, unsupported, so you never know how
long
that's going to last.
Hth,
Chip

Subject: [blindipod] Getting NonAudible Books onto your ipod
Hi all,
I have been playing with the best way to get NonAudible books
onto muy Ipod
Shuffle.
I will describe two sorts of books, those already in MP3
format and those on
CD.
MP3 books
Depending upon how large your mp3 files are, you might want
to join them
into larger ones.
To join files I am currently using mp3/mpeg joiner. It is
very accessible.
1. Join the mp3 files into larger files if wanted. The
advantage of this
is that you have a smaller number of files that will finally
be transferred
to the ipod.
2. Import these files into ITunes.
3. Use the Get Info option to put in correct information
about the book (I
include a number as the last part of the title 01 etc.).
Putting a number
as the last part of the title ensures that they will be
transferred in
sequence. Also under the options tab you need to check the
resume box.
4. Transfer these files to your shuffle.
CD books
I rip CDs into MP3 format. I can then use these files if I
want to play
your transfer them outside of ITunes.
1. Place the CD into the tray and wait for ITunes to
recognize it. You
will probably have to use the Get Info option to insert
information about
the book. Append the title of the book with a number (01
etc) for the given
CD. I use this method of naming so that the files will be
transferred in
sequence.
2. Highlight all the tracks on the CD.
3. Go to advanced on the menu and then chooce join all tracks.
4. Import the CD into Itunes. When this is done, you will
have one file
with all tracks on it.
5. Use the Get Info option/options and check the resume box.
6. Transfer the file to your ipod.
I hope this helps.
Ron
