[blindipod] Re: Christmas

As has been stated, it really does depend in what format the spoken word material is in. While the Archos players are very good, assuming you can get one, they do not accept Audible content.
The iPod Shuffle has the advantage of being able to play music and Audible content. The Book Courier and the Book Port can also do this, and they have the advantage as well of being able to play DAISY content.

Please if you can, try to give us more information about what it is you primarily want to hear on the player.

Thank you.

Hi Brian,

I am a person who did receive an Ipod shuffle for Christmas (although a little
early, so I've had a few weeks with it).

I'm using JFW 6.2, and the latest Itunes (entirely with the jaws cursor only),
and just found your scripts last night (and this list last night).

I found it because I'm considering getting rid of the shuffle and moving to some
other portable player with a better Windows software interface. I decided to
see how others were doing with Itunes before I gave up on it.

I've got no particular reason to stick with the shuffle, so I'd appreciate your
opinion as to how usable it can be verses buying and using something else
(primarily for audio books, not the random selection of musical tunes).

Just as an example, I've heard of a portable player called the archos, which
even has an optional speech module for its onboard menus, and no need for a
library managing software package like Itunes (evidently one just uses it like a
hard drive).

Thanks for your advice and any help,

Chip Orange

Hi

First, a very happy Christmas and new year to everyone on the list.

Very briefly, I note that over the last two days we have had
a sudden influx
of people subscribing to this list which is good news. I
personally know
quite a number of people in several countries who have
received iPods or
similar players for Christmas, and if there is anything we
can do to provide
any assistance in getting them up and running over this
holiday period, I am
sure collectively there will be someone on this list who can help.
