I have a different Altec InMotion model. They are something like £70 new.
Two speakers swivel to stand up either side of a small rubberised platform.
You can plug up any personal audio device via the headphone jack which is on a
telescopic cable. I use them for my Book Courier (both audio and text
reading), my milestone 311 for audio books and my iPod for music. The quality
is excellent. Can I suggest looking at
  www.pricerunner.co.uk
with the search string altec InMotion. I really like mine.

  Hi Andrew,

Did you go to that link I gave you? I think it might be pretty helpful since
it not only tells you about all the different speakers, but it also gives you
their prices. Although, I don't' agree with all the reviews.

I take it you want some speakers that are more like a boom box then. The
speakers my brother has are called Altec Lansing INMotion 7, and they are also
some of the highest recommended ones on that website. That also means they
aren't the cheapest either. If I remember right, they are $249. They are
shaped like a tube with the power and volume buttons on top. In the middle is
a place where you put your iPod although you won't be using it if you have a
shuffle. It opens and closes like the cassette players on newer boom boxes.you
push it in and the door pops out and you put your iPod in and close it. You'd
be plugging your shuffle in to the back with a cable, though. It also has a
remote that lets you pause the iPod and skip back and forward through tracks,
and you can adjust the bass with it. It doesn't work very good, though.

  Hi Brian,

I will probably be only using the speakers in my bedroom to listen to
audiobooks. Your brothers speakers sound perfect. Can you send me the price of
those speakers and if they have a special name, please send me that as well.

  thanks for your help,

  have a great day!

    Hi Andrew,

To answer your question, let me first ask one of my own. Where are you
going to be using your speakers? The reason I ask this is that yes, there are
speakers designed specifically for the iPod, but they all serve different
purposes. The ones I have are Called InMotion 3. They are very portable so I
almost only use them while I'm not at home. They're small enough that I can
just throw them in my backpack. They flip open and I can dock my iPod inside.
If I have them plugged into the wall, they wil also charge the iPod. They have
a cable that allows you to plug a shuffle into them, or any other mp3 player or
a CD player. They were great for when I got my guide dog since I was gone for
awhile, but they're not the best speakers for everyday listening.

My brother has some iPod speakers that are part of the same product family
as mine, but they sound much better than mine, although they are more like a
boom box, meaning that you would probably only move it from room to room,
rather than take them on a trip like I did with mine. He just leaves his Nano
docked in them until he wants to take it somewhere, so the battery is always
ready to go.

Since you have a shuffle, you can use any old speakers you want, though I
do think there are some specifically made for it. Head over to

    www.ilounge.com

and use your links list and click on "reviews and accessories." Then hit H
until you get to the speakers heading. Under that are all their reviews for
iPod speakers. There are quite a few of them, most are iPod specific speakers
but some are not. The prices of the speakers are at the top of the reviews.

Hello my friends and everyone at Blind Ipod free lists,

I want to get some speakers for my Ipod shuffle for christmas. Are there
special speakers for Ipods, and if so, do I need specific speakers for my
shuffle?

    How much do they cost?
