[blindipod] Re: Itunes or anapod explorer

Hi, would you ever consider writing scripts to make anapod better than it currently is? If the program is easily scripted maybe it would be a good alternative for those who can not use itunes for whatever reason. I personally have always found it really complicated to get set up even use. I do think you've done a brilliant job with the scripts but as you've said all along, it's not been an ideal environment to work with, and things just keep cropping up.
what do you think?

Hi

I had not tried Annapod for quite some time, but I have just tried the
latest version and I think it is really excellent. I know I should be
saying that I want you to use the new scripts with iTunes 7 and jaws 7,
but after seeing what Annapod is like, I actually cannot say that. It
is a very good program.

I do think there are some issues with focus within Annapod, in
particular when using jaws 7.10. I also think jaws could be set to read
the information pertaining to files and categories much better than it
does. But that can be scripted for because there is lots of MSAA in the
program.

The only reason I was put off Annapod in the first place was due to the
fact that it was reported by a number of people that, when audible books
were transferred to the iPod, the position was not retained very well.
Of course you can also not purchase music from the iTunes music store
with Annapod although you can use the program to transfer music to the
iPod itself.

Inn summary, my honest opinion so far is that, using iTunes 6.5, I think
our interface was more intuitive than Annapod from a blind person's
perspective particularly when it comes to things like transferring music
to a device since we advise you that it is taking place, when it is
complete, and so on. We've also got lots of verbosity in there for new
users, the ability to deal with radio stations and lots and lots of
other things.

I think what we have for iTunes 7 is good enough to be released, but the
feel of it is just "adequate". Things now have to be handled
differently depending upon which iPod you have and we cannot support the
latest jaws versions. I have done what I can with iTunes 7, but the
program has gone from being something which from an accessibility
standpoint was quite poor to being terrible.

I am going to get a new ipod nano and I am running jaws 7. With all
these complecations I am wondering why is it not better to just run
anapod explorer rather than itunes? Are there functions within itunes I
particularly need? I have not tried anapod explorer yet and I have used
itunes older versions quite a while back.
Any thoughts would be appreciated,

Jessica
