Hi,

Same here with my Iriver. I didn't need any sighted assistance. There was one
tiny glitch where I could have went and asked for sighted assistance but I was
able to get it working alright. As far as the Iriveris concerned, that version
of Rockbox installs a display theme by default that causes music to skip. The
problem is, the speech can't read the menu that lists the WPC themes. Since
there were only 3 WPC themes installed, I just took a guess and arrowed down to
another theme and selected it. Whichever theme it was I picked, it did the
trick since my music doesn't skip anymore. Blind individuals won't have any
problem installing Rockbox. Just make sure to read all the documentation,
follow directions and you should be alright. Once you get the speech
installed, you'll find the Rockbox interface to be very intuitive.

Michael

No sighted assistance is needed. I have put rockbox on my Nano several times
now.

Did you need any sighted help to install rockbox?

I heard that you need sighted help, for updating the firmware.

      Hello Everyone,

Well, after a whole lot of reading and a good deal of trial and error, I
finally got Rockbox working on my new music player. It kind of surprised me,
but there is considerable online support for the Iriver H10 where Rockbox is
concerned. I was extremely pleased to find this kind of help and is what made
my getting Rockbox to work possible. It is so cool that I can now navigate the
menus on a device like this and adjust the settings. I haven't yet installed
the voice clips so I still can't read the folders yet but I'll be getting to
that soon. But I'm extremely happy with what I have so far. I was kind of
disappointed though that the AT&T Natural Voices were no longer available to be
used with Rockbox, but being able to use IBM Via Voice speech was a pretty
good alternative. I can't distinguish it from Jaws speech at all. I still
wish they had the AT&T voices though. Oh well. The only other drawback with
the most current version of Rockbox for the Iriver H10, is that it isn't able
to access the FM tuner or the voice recorder but it is being worked on. So
hopefully it won't be too much longer before I'll have access to those
features too. I also need to go back and read how to revert back to the
original firmware if I want to. I've tried it a couple of times but I haven't
been able to get it to work. According to the Rockbox info, I should still be
able to use the original Iriver firmware if I want to. All in all, I am very
happy with Rockbox and my new music player. I'm thinking of putting together
an audio tutorial explaining how to do the installation and putting it up on
my web site. I had to read information from Rockbox.Org and some other web
sites to figure everything out and it was a bit confusing at times. But I
think I have a pretty good idea how to do this now. If anyone is looking to
buy a new music player and their not sure which one to get, the IRiver H10 is
definitely a good option. I got the 6gb model, but there is also a 5gb and
20gb model available as well, all of which I found on Ebay at pretty good
prices. Thanks to everyone for your recommendations and help.

      Michael

        Hi Brian,

When you run the scripts, nothing appears to happen - no program shows
up on screen with a progress bar. The Lame encoder appears on the taskbar now
and then, but that's about it until you hear a beep and a dialog says it's
done. This took around 15 minutes, I think, when I did it the first time on my
Nano, so it could take a very long time with the Video. One way to confirm
that something is happening is to use the Safely Remove Hardware option to try
to remove the iPod; you should get a message that it can't be removed at this
time.

Another possibility is that your antivirus software could be getting in
the way. I have McAfee, and every time I run Voicebox, I have to click a
choice that says "Run entire script this time." If anyone knows how to tell
McAfee to always allow this script, I'd love some help, as it's quite annoying.

Be sure you're running the Apple firmware when you use Voicebox, as it
will speed up the time it takes to label your files considerably.

As for your other problem, talk MP3 Clip should be on the Voice
Directories and Voice Files menus. You might check to make sure you have the
latest voice file, at
        http://steve-audio.net/rockbox/
Be sure to run a CVS voice, not one from Rockbox release 2.5. Good
luck.

        Regards,
        Anna
