Hi Alison,
Selecting the library is indeed how you get iTunes to autofill using your
entire collection to draw from.
As for albums being put in the wrong place, the best thing to do is change
their ID3 tags. If you change where they are put, iTunes will put them
back where it thinks they should go based on the ID3 tags. If you change
these tags, iTunes will change where it puts the files.
You get access to ID3 tags from the Get Info dialog, which is right at the
top of the context menu you get when you select a song or group of
songs. If the album is in the wrong place, select all the songs on the
album before going to this box. Tab through it and change whatever you
need to - title, album, whether it's part of a compilation, etc. When you
exit the box, the album should be put in the right place.
If you need to change information for a single song, the process is the
same except that you are focused on the Summary page in the Get Info dialog
when you first open it. On this page, you can read all the info with your
mouse cursor, but you can't change it. You have to move to the Info page
to change the song information.
I hope that helps.
Cheers,
Anna
