IPod connectivity is one of the hot features of the year for home
theater receivers. Denon, Pioneer, Yamaha, and a lot of others either
have an input for the iPod, a cradle like that mentioned for the Bose
unit for the iPod, or a USB port for generic connectivity to
computers or portable players for streaming music.
The big question mark is accessibility. I am not sure whether using
the Rock Box firmware will cost one the connectivity to a cradle
designed to work with the iPod firmware. If so, fixing that would be
possible, but would require some work from the Rock Box developers
community. The models with USB connectivity would be in the same
boat, I believe, I know that battery charging from some portables
does not work with Rock Box, so connectivity for streaming might also
require work. However, using the USB connection with a PC should
allow one to have an accessible connection, but is not quite as
snazzy, in my opinion, as being able to stream music to one's home
system, grab one's portable to continue listening to a favorite
playlist on the road, all with great accessibility. So, I hope that
Rock Box will work, or may be made to work with such devices. It
could make me choose the iPod over the Cowon player, and save me the
extra expense of a Squeezebox.

Chris

This is an interesting post. I have been wondering if companies
will begin producing audio/video receivers that are iPod
compatible. i haven't seen any, other than the clock radio type
devices. Are such receivers really inexistence? Are they expensive?

I am actually not a fan of a lot of Bose's products, but their
portable products and smaller media centers are an exception. They
really seem to have gotten the concept of big sound from small box
really down. I have not heard any of their devices hooked up to an
iPod, but I suspect the sound would be great if the quality of the
media center in question is anything like their Wave radio.
This topic reminds me of a question I had thought of previously. In
addition to devices like the one mentioned in this post, a lot of
Audio/Video Recievers are now coming with interfaces specifically
designed for the iPod, most take over control of the iPod thus
allowing control of the player via remote. The question I have is
whether or not this is a function of software or hardware. Would it
work with Rock Box? If so, it would be great, the concept of
hooking up a portable player to my home theater system and being
able to get speech to select my choices has me skirting dangerously
close to a Homer Simpson-like reaction of extacy.

Chris

Hi all,
I've heard that bose radio at www.bose.co.uk has a media centre that allows
you to plug your Ipod into its machine for the richest sound available. I
can imagine the rich sound of Bose technology and an Ipod with rockbox in
anyone's living room must be the cat's meow. Does anyone have this setup and
what do they think of it?
