Hi
Just thought I would bring people up-to-date on how we are progressing with
Podcasts and the JAWS scripts for iTunes based upon your feedback, and it's
good news!
1. We have a keystroke to expand the podcast tree in order that you can see
the episodes available, both in the past and in the future.
2. As you move through each episode within the Podcast, jaws will of course
announce the name of the episode. If it has not been downloaded, it will
still read it and say "not downloaded" using the jaws message voice.
3. You can press a keystroke to activate the "get now" button. If you press
the key when the "get now" button is not available, we tell you that you
cannot get the episode as you already have it. You can press the "updater"
key to obtain information about the download and when it is complete.
4. You can press a keystroke to close the Podcast so as not to see any more
episodes and move to the next podcast in the tree structure. You need to
press this key at the top of the Podcast rather than midway down, so we
detect where in the Podcast you are and, if you are not in the right place,
we tell you to move to the start of the podcast. When you reach the start
of the podcast and press the keystroke, it closes the podcast. Because this
is the same key which opens a podcast, we tell you of its state as we do
with the radio stations now, with the words "expanded" or "collapsed".
5. I did experiment with one more thing, but didn't know if it was over
chatty. As you browse through the podcasts, I did have jaws notifying you
automatically when you were entering or leaving a podcast. So, if you start
with a main podcast heading in the tree, then you arrow down so you are in
the podcast, jaws will say "level 1", then announce the episode name. When
you continue to arrow down and reach a new main Podcast, we don't say
anything.
6. We have a keystroke to unsubscribe from a Podcast.
7. We could also have a keystroke to go to the main web site of the Podcast,
such as CNN.
Thank you for your suggestions and the Podcast feeds. If there is anything
else you can think of in the next couple of days, please let me know.
