You can also just use the list voices.vbs script or for SAPI4 the list voice_sapi4.vbs script. If this is easier.

Hi Jim,
Basically you need to have a voice on your machine, preferably a SAPI5 voice.
2. you need the english.lang file.
3. You also need the makevoices.zip file, which contains the necessary files to create the voice from the english.lang file. To create a voice:
1. Unzip the makevoices.zip file in to a folder that you can find.
2. Copy the english.lang file in to the same folder where you extracted the makevoices.zip files. 3. Go in to the folder where you have all the makevoices files and highlight the makevoices.vbs file. Either right click it, or press the applications key and choose the "run from command prompt" option, from the context menu. This will load the script and start creating the voice file. 4. Once the process is complete, the command window will be closed and you will find a englishXXX.voice file in the same folder. XXX represents the name of the speech engine used to create the file. To use To use the file in rockbox, you need to strip the synth name out of the englishXXX.voice file so that it is called english.voice. You then copy this in to the rockbox\langs folder in your Ipod and reboot it. Your then good to go. By default the makevoices script will use Microsoft Mary from memory. To see what voices you have installed on your computer, press enter on the listvoices.vbs file. This will list each voice you have on your machine. You will then have to click the okay button to get it to move on to the next voice. Once you find the voice you want, you will need to copy down it's name exactly. Mine is"ScanSoft Karen_Full_22kHz". There are already a few in the makevoices script, so depending on what voices you have installed and which one you want to use,you may just be able to uncomment it out in the Makevoices.vbs script, and comment out the Microsoft one of course. The different voices that are available start on line 60 of the makevoices.vbs script, so you will have to open it in notepad to edit it. You place an apostrophe at the beginning of a line to comment it out, (ignore it) and remove the apostrophe from the start of the line to uncomment it. If you need the Makevoices file, let me know and I can send it. There is a page somewhere where you can download it from and has more clearer instructions than mine, but I can't seem to find it now. Just wish the rockbox site made it easier to find things, Smile. Hopefully someone knows where this web page is and can inform us. Hope this helps,
Brett.

I wonder if you could walk me through the creation of a voice file? I am not clear about the genlang issue. Thanks much.

        Hi all,
After a re-format, I have found a couple of things I have
forgotten to backup, one is the url to grab the latest
English.lang file. Can anyone please remind me where to find
the English.lang file for rockbox? I am not looking for the
voice file, because I prefer to make my own Australian voice file.
thanks for any assistance,
        Brett.
