HI Jim,

You can shuffle across folders if you add more than one to a playlist. If you want to shuffle all your music, here's the easiest way to do it:

1. Put all your music folders within a folder called Music (or whatever you like).

2. Go to Playlist Options on the main menu, select the Recursively Insert Directories option, and make sure it's turned on.

3. Select your music folder.

4. Hold down the center button until the file menu comes up: Rockbox will say Playlist.

5. Press Next once; Rockbox will say Insert.

6. Scroll to the Insert Shuffled choice, and press Next.

You could do the same thing for a subset, such as a folder containing all the albums by a particular artist. You can also in theory go to different folders and add them to the current playlist, but you have to do it while a file is playing, and that doesn't seem to talk very well. But the method I described works.

HTH,
Anna
