I am online, using broadband, so never really go offline.
 
If I ask it to get track names it does immediately.

Hi Sharon,

Normally iTunes automatically looks up track names when you insert a CD.  I
don't know why it isn't in your case; I looked at all the options in the
Preferences dialog and can't find anything that would turn off this feature.
Are you online when you put in the CD?  If you aren't, iTunes can't look up
the track info.  That's the only thing I can think of to suggest.  You could
also try repairing or reinstalling iTunes.  Good luck.
