Hi Annabell,
For detailed information on using iTunes with the Shuffle, I suggest
reading my book - The iPod Experience: Gaining Access to the iPod Shuffle.
It's available for $6 from National Braille Press,
www.braille.com
Within a few days, it should be possible to buy books from that site and
download them immediately - I'll let everyone know when.
To get you started, though, to put music or books into the Shuffle, you
have to import them into the iTunes library. It is straightforward to
import files or folders using dialogs on the File menu.
Next, you need to find the content you want to put in the Shuffle. on the
iTunes screen, there is a "source list" of things like the library,
podcasts, the music store, and your iPod, if it's plugged in. I think
with Steve's set files you can use the up and down arrows to select one of
these. The right side of the screen changes to reflect your selection on
the left. So if you select Library in the source list by arrowing to it,
the contents of your library are displayed on the right. Similarly, if
you select your iPod, the contents are displayed on the right.
The third component is an edit box where you can type in a search term.
So if you import an Audible book and are focused on the Library, you can
type a keyword or keywords from the book's title in this box and press
Enter, and anything containing your search string will appear on the
right.
You move between the sections with the tab key. So tab to the source
list, select Library, tab once to the edit box, type in your search
string, press Enter, and tab once more to find the search results.
You then have to use copy and paste to put what you want into the iPod. I
don't know whether Steve's scripts simplify this process at all. The idea
is to select what you want. Arrowing to it may be enough. I'm not sure
whether the set files allow for multiple selection. Without any set
files, Control-C doesn't work reliably, but you can go to the Edit menu
and choose Copy.
Then press tab once to get back to the source list. Arrow down to the
iPod. Tab twice to the iPod contents and choose Paste from the Edit menu.
Your content should be copied.
I hope that helps you at least get a book into your Shuffle. Good luck.
Cheers,
Anna
