Also if you just use rockbox and never the apple firmware you don't need
itunes.

Hi Cane,
You need to use either iTunes or something simelar if you want to be
able
to play stuff from the iPod firmware. If you don't want to play from the
iPod firmware and just use rockbox exclusively, you can then just drag
and
drop or copy and paste files on to your iPod. i created a "Music",
Moovy"
and "book" folder and I copy the specific type of file in to that
folder.
that way all songs are together as are books and moovies etc.
