Thanks so much again Cane.

I erased the two library files, then I tunes worked ok, but I am now having 
trouble to get itunes to see the ipod.

I know I will get there soon, *grin*.

  Your instincts about this are correct.  Deleting the two library files I 
mentioned and then re-starting iTunes will cause your new version to rebuild 
its library.  But your settings--podcast subscriptions, playlists, 
etc.--probably won't be there after the rebuilding of your new library.  Your 
music files and even podcast episodes still will exist on your hard drive; but 
you will have to rearrange these so they can be seen and played in iTunes as 
you want them.  So prepare for more work.
