[blindipod] Audiophile labels now jumping into the downloads business

I found these services that are selling DRM free high quality,
sometimes even high resolution and surround, audio tracks. I have yet
to buy any tracks from them, but have DVD-Audios and SACDs from the
people behind these services and their standards for mastering and
recording are absolutely top notch. Aix records is behind iTrax, and
Chesky records is behind hdtracks. The latter's site states that they
are only available in the US for now, but given their small size I
would think that they would have to expand very soon to have a chance
of making it.

I am not sure what percentage of these services tracks are playable
on portable players. Buying the surround versions would limit you to
playing on a PC with surround speakers or burning to DVD and playing
on a surround setup, but you can buy many of their tracks in formats
that are playable on a portable player or that can be transcoded to a
compatible format. If anyone knows of a list of players that can
handle audio at 24 bit 96 kHz or 24 bit 192 kHz I would love to know.
Even if none of the high definition tracks work on any current
portable players, their standard CD quality tracks would still be
stellar because of the care they take in recording and mastering
their music. Their catalogs are limited, but if you like any of the
types of music in their lineups, you should definitely check them out.
