As you may have already figured out by now, the iPod is displayed as a drive in
Windows by default.
The best part about using Rockbox is that one can just copy files to the
device using Windows Explorer and start playing them on the iPod.

did your Ipod come up as a drive in windows, when you first got it?
or do I need to mount the disk in some way, prior to installing rock box?g

You can indeed charge the iPod when running Rockbox. However, you cannot
listen to anything while charging. The moment you connect the iPod to the
computer, the device switches on if it is off, and begins charging.
From that point until you disconnect the USB cable, you cannot use the
iPod. You can however copy files from your computer to the iPod or delete files
from the iPod during this time.

No, have never used Iriver. But this iPod sounds quite good. I was recently
listening to a BBC dramatization of Crime and Punishment, and the sound it
produced made me assume that I was sitting in a theater. It was superb clarity.

I have heard that the Ipods are not as great sounding as the Irivers.
did you ever use an Iriver before the Ipod? if so have you noticed any
great sound difference?

Hi Mark,
I have the 5.5th generation one, although Rockbox supports all the 30GB
iPods, regardless of the generation.
I have never done a proper battery test as yet and have not waited for
the battery to drain out, but I get around eight hours on average.
With the original Apple firmware, I have been told that the battery
lasts for 12 hours.
No, not many lockups except when playing very long files.
Given the benefits and ease of use of Rockbox, I do not mind these
occasional lockups at all.

hi Geetha, do you have the 5th Generation, or the 5.5 generation Ipod
video?
I understand there is a difference with regards battery life and rock
box?
how are you finding the battery life?
are you getting many lock ups?

Hi Mark,
You have indeed understood the Rockbox site correctly.
I purchased a 30GB iPod a few weeks ago, and am quite happy with it
overall.
I have had no problems at all operating with the wheel -- in fact I
use a skin all the time and still have no problems.
And I had no trouble with the voicebox script either.
Except for the occasional lockups, I am extremely happy with the
Rockbox/iPod combination.
Should you have further questions, please feel free to ask.
Geetha

Subject: [blindipod] anyone using Ipod video 30 or 60GB 5th adition
hi list, my Iriver has died and I am looking at the Ipods for my
replacement.
Have I understood the rock box site correctly, in as much as the Ipod
30 and 60GB 5th generation are working with rock box?
if so, anyone out using it at the moment?
Speaking to a friend who was using the Ipod video about a year ago,
he said it was a little difficult to operate with the wheal and not really
worth the effort.
experienced problems getting the voice box script to work on the
Ipod video.
Have we seen an improvement on the Ipod video in terms of rock box
support, and functionality?
any info much appreciated.
RGDS,
mark
