[blindipod] Re: anyone using Ipod video 30 or 60GB 5th edition

HI mark,
Well, the choices I saw were the 30-GB or 80, and I knew from rock box's Web
site that it didn't work with the 80, so I went for the next best one.
Don't know about the sixth generation.
Have a blessed day,
Nicki,

hi Nicki, were you particularly advised to get a 5.5th generation?
I ask as I can now see a 6th generation, but am not sure what the difference
is, between 5.5th and 6.
and also weather rock box works on the 6th generation, or not.

Hi Mark,
I am using the 5.5 generation I-Pod with the latest version of rock box as
of this past Saturday, and it's working fine. It did lock up on me once or
twice, but I got it back okay, and I do like it. The wheel is a bit hard to
get used to, but it can be gotten used to, I think, and my husband said it's
not much different for sighted people to get used to. I have gotten the
voice box script working fine on it, too. This I-Pod was just purchased
Saturday at Circuit city, and it is a 30-GB I-Pod video 5.5. I am also
reading audible books from the Apple firmware with no problems at all. Hope
this helps. It's a lot easier than I thought it would be from what I had
heard, honestly.
Obviously, it doesn't give me as much verbal feedback as the bookPort, but I
have no problems operating it, which I was afraid I might.

Mark,
I had a 30 Gig Video Ipod and returned it for some of the same reasons. I
found it to be pretty good, but the click wheel is a little hard to get use
to. I also found that the Rockbox firmware would lock up on me.
I did like to formfactor and miss it, however, I am going to try an iAudio
X5 to see if it works better for me. From what I have heard from some
podcasts it seems easier to operate with the joystick.
Hope this helps,
Vinny

Subject: [blindipod] anyone using Ipod video 30 or 60GB 5th adition
hi list, my Iriver has died and I am looking at the Ipods for my
replacement.
Have I understood the rock box site correctly, in as much as the Ipod 30 and
60GB 5th generation are working with rock box?
if so, anyone out using it at the moment?
Speaking to a friend who was using the Ipod video about a year ago, he said
it was a little difficult to operate with the wheal and not really worth
the effort.
experienced problems getting the voice box script to work on the Ipod
video.
Have we seen an improvement on the Ipod video in terms of rock box support,
and functionality?
any info much appreciated.
RGDS,
mark
