HI Janet,
I would call Apple, preferably when there's someone sighted around
who can verify lights flashing, etc. You're entitled to a free call
to tech support with a new iPod, and I should think the same would
apply to a replacement, though you might want to check with them when
someone first gets on the line. If you're using iTunes to transfer
the songs to the iPod, they show up in the list of songs, and you've
tried a couple different pairs of headphones, it sure sounds like the
thing is defective. I hope they have something else you can try.
The only other thing I thought of is that if you hold down the
play/pause button for 3 seconds, Hold gets turned on, so subsequent
presses don't do anything. I would think that since you've restored
the Shuffle, Hold would be turned off even if it was on at one point,
but that is another thing to rule out.
Oh yeah - are you waiting around 5 seconds after turning on the
Shuffle before pressing Play? Since you had a Shuffle before, this
also is unlikely to be the problem, since you obviously played songs
on that one. Just something to consider.
Good luck.
Cheers,
Anna
