[blindipod] MP3 players

This might be a stupid question, but I'm thinking of buying something for a
gift and want to make sure it's right. If I buy what's described as an MP3
Player, will that play all the material an iPod played? All the music that is
in an iTunes Library? And assuming they don't sinc like an iPod with iTunes, do
you simply copy and paste?
Just after a bit of reassurance here.
