Hello Brian,
I am wondering what version of the manual you are referring to. The version
that came with my latest scripts is 3B.doc and it doesn't include the
section that you pasted into your last message or the useful tip that you
gave me for pasting content into my ipod.
What the version I have says about pasting in ipod is the following:
Example 1
Use the "Move to Library key", "ITUNES MODIFIER+I", to move directly to the
"ITunes Library".
Press "TAB" once to move to the list of tracks in the "Library".
Use the "UP/DOWN ARROW" keys to locate the track in the "Library" for
transfer.
Copy this to the clipboard with "CONTROL+C".
Press "TAB" twice to move to the "Source List".
Use "DOWN ARROW" until the name of your IPod is in focus.
Press "TAB" once to focus upon the list of tracks in your iPod. At this
stage there may be no tracks available in the list.
Press "CONTROL+V" to paste the track into your IPod.
You will be automatically advised that the iPod is being updated, and when
the process is complete. However, you can press the "GRAVE ACCENT" key
(immediately to the left of figure 1 on the main QWERTY keyboard). This is
the "Updater Key". JAWS will inform you that your IPod is being updated and
which track is being copied.
The song is now on the IPod. You can use the "UP/DOWN ARROW" keys to review
the contents of the iPod, or use "INSERT+UP ARROW" (the JAWS standard "Say
Line" command) to read the current track.
Example 2
Use the "Move to Library key", "ITUNES MODIFIER+I", to move directly to the
"ITunes Library".
Press "TAB" once to move to the list of tracks in the "Library".
Use the "UP/DOWN ARROW" keys to locate the track in the "Library" for
transfer.
Copy this to the clipboard with "CONTROL+C".
Press "TAB" twice to move to the "Source List".
Use "DOWN ARROW" until the name of your IPod is in focus.
Press "ITUNES MODIFIER+N" to open the contents of the iPod into a new
window. JAWS will confirm this action.
Press "CONTROL+V" to paste the track into your IPod.
You will be automatically advised that the iPod is being updated, and when
the process is complete. A sound will also play periodically. However, you
can press the "GRAVE ACCENT" key (immediately to the left of figure 1 on the
main QWERTY keyboard). This is the "Updater Key". JAWS will inform you that
your IPod is being updated and which song is being copied.
The song is now on the IPod. You can use the "UP/DOWN ARROW" keys to review
the contents of the iPod, or use "INSERT+UP ARROW" (the JAWS standard "Say
Line" command) to read the current track.
Press "ALT+F4" to close the iPod new window and return to the "Source List".
Example 2, says to press modifier N to view content of ipod in a new window
but the window doesn't open. An add new songs dialog box opens up instead.
thanks Brian!

Subject: [blindipod] Re: problems with latest Itunes scripts
I don't have an iPod connected to my computer, and I haven't had for
some time, but the tip I gave you about pasting when you found the iPod
name in the source list was taken from the iTunes scripts manual I wrote
when I did have it connected. Here is the section on viewing the
contents of it.
From the "Source List", select the name of your IPod. Once you know the
name, you can press its initial letter.
Press "DOWN ARROW" to select "Music" or "Audio Books".
If "Music" is selected, press "TAB" once to focus upon the list of
tracks on the iPod. Clearly, pressing "TAB" once from the "Audio Books"
section which present you with a list of audio books such as those from
Audible.
Use the "UP/DOWN ARROW" keys to explore the contents of the device. If
you have hundreds of songs on the iPod, remember you can use first
letter navigation to move more quickly down the list.
Remember, when we customised the view pertaining to the "ITunes Library"
in the section entitled "Desirable Adjustments", these settings are not
used when viewing the contents of your IPod. So, with the IPod selected
from within the "Source List", go through the recommendations set out in
that section of this documentation.
And there is another item which may be useful as well:
It is then important to ensure that the "Summary" item is selected. To
do this, press "INSERT+F8" to bring into view the various screens on
your iPod. These include "Summary", "Music", and other items. In a
future update to the scripts, we intend to make use of the "Music"
section as this is used to let iTunes know that you wish the program to
choose songs randomly to be placed onto your iPod from your library.
However, at the moment, you need to focus upon the "Summary" section and
press "ENTER".
I hope that helps. I just wonder if you want to view music whether you
have to select the music section from the insert F8 list? As I say, I
cannot remember at the moment.

Your suggestion worked great, because now I am able to paste content
into my ipod Shuffle but I don't see the list of ipod content in the
ipod's name list. So, I cannot delete the items in my ipod. Do you
know where I can find this list?
Thanks a million!

What happens if you arrow down to the name of your iPod, and do not
press tab, but just press control V. Does that work? What sort of iPod

Hello Brian,
We looked carefully but we don't see a second music heading that you are
referring to, below the name of the ipod . There is only one music
heading which is on the top of the Itunes screen which is what used to
be called the
library in former versions and it is where all the albums are placed.
So,
I don't know what to do. In previous Itunes versions it was simple
because it could be pasted right into the item list of the specific ipod
to be transfered into. How do you personally transfer content such as
songs or podcasts into an ipod ? Pls. advise further.
Thanks a million Brian!

When you arrow down the source list this is what you will get in this
order.
1. Your iPod name.
2. Underneath will be Music.
3. Underneath if I recall it is audio books.
So in other words, you arrow down to item 2, tab once and paste.
This is a different music category to the music item which is at the
very top of the source list. This is music specific to your iPod. So
there are two music items in the source list in total.

Let me see if I understand correctly. So, you do not have to be in the
ipod items list to paste content there in order for it to be transfered
to the ipod? Does it mean that if I paste it in the music item list, it
still gets automatically transferred into the ipod? Then, what is the
purpose of the ipod's items colunm? This is different from the previous
versions of Itunes. Also, can you put podcasts to be transferred in the
music item list? Pls. advise.
Thanks again for your help Brian.

I think I know what is going on here. Of course if the paste option is
unavailable that is nothing to do with us (smile). However, when you
locate your iPod, you do not tab at that point. Underneath the iPod
name in the source list there are further sub-groups, one of which will
be music. Arrow down to that option, then tab, then paste. It should
work then.

I am using Jaws 7.0. I select a song or a podcast from the Itune's
library by using the arrow keys. Then I copy my selection to the
clipboard with control C. Then I select my ipod and tab into the Ipod
field to attempt to paste the clipboard content there for the ipod to be
updated by using control V. I can tell that the content is being copied
to the clipboard but control V does not paste it into the ipod field.
When I tried to use the edit menu as an alternative and went into paste,
it tells me paste unavailable even though content has been copied to
clipboard. A sighted person was able to perform this task in a round
about way. Pls. advise.

Hi
Thanks for your message to the list.
1. I accept there is a problem with the item and source list
announcements being switched and I will update that fairly quickly for
you.
2. If you have followed all the guidelines within the jaws help system
for customising windows XP, there should not be a problem with the arrow
key functionality. Did you train the colours manually or using the
automatic training feature?
3. When you say you cannot paste into your iPod, please detail step by
step what you did to try to paste a song onto the iPod.
4. Which jaws version are you using please? I know iTunes is getting
worse with each jaws release that comes along, but with the versions up
to 7.0 it should be OK.

Subject: [blindipod] problems with latest Itunes scripts
Hi ,
I just purchased the latest Itunes scripts. I am using Itunes 7. I
carefully followed all the required installation steps and all the
recommendations specified in the scripts manual and I have also
reinstalled both Itunes and scripts but I am still having the following
problems:
1. Jaws does not read the Itune screen accurately and The up and down
arrows work only sporadically.
2. the source and items lists appear to be switched around
3. I cannot paste any content into my ipod, as the paste feature is
unavailable. A sighted person however was able to paste in my ipod.
Therefore, I know that it is not a problem related to my ipod.
Please advise on what else I can do, because at this point, the scripts
don't work and Itunes is unusable to me.
Thanks!
