Hi Anna
Thanks for your reply. I wish I'd realised before ripping all my collection
to wav.
The funny thing is that after ripping them, all the information was
available in Itunes even although they were wav files. Also when I used
Itunes to convert them all into mp3s all the tags were carried over. Do you
think this is due to the information stored in the Itunes library file
rather than in the individual wavs?
Also if the information is still resident in the wav files while they are in
Itunes which other lossless format would be worthwhile transferring to in
order to maintain quality and to have access to the tags?
Regards.
Gordon

Hi Gordon,
WAV files can't store ID3 info; they were invented before ID3 tags were.
So it won't matter which program you use - that info won't be saved.
With Brian's scripts, I really like iTunes for importing and organizing
music. Winamp is okay, though I prefer iTunes, and I heard that the
library in the latest edition isn't as accessible as it used to be.
RealPlayer is usable but clunky, as is Media Player (at least, Media
Player used to be usable; I haven't tried in a year and a half or so). So
I think you could use any of these programs, but with the scripts, I think
iTunes is easiest.
One thing I have often done, though, is import using RealPlayer, then add
the folders to the iTunes library. I do this because RealPlayer isn't as
resource-intensive when importing; I can run just about any other programs
I want at the same time, which isn't the case with iTunes.
Cheers,
Anna
