Not at all. There are larger iPods available with hard drives, that you can install Rockbox on. Lots of people like the Shuffle because it is small, has no screen, and really has one control plus the on/off/shuffle switch. The newer Shuffle has two switches and one button, that's it! Couldn't be simpler.

There's no reason not to go for an iRiver or some other line of audio player that can support Rockbox - it doesn't have to be an Apple iPod.
