Hi
I hope people find part of the below useful given recent list discussion. If
people would like more information about Infotech, please contact me off list.
Hi
The January edition of Infotech magazine which we produce contains two very
interesting articles.
Because of their popularity, every few months we talk about or review portable
media players, such as the iRiver models, the Rockbox software, and the
Milestone device. In this month's magazine, we keep listeners up-to-date with
the latest developments in this technology, which will among other things
include a review of the Nokia N91 mobile phone from Steve Nutt of Computer Room
Services. This is what is known as a "music phone", allowing you to play and
interact with audio material and podcasts. Oh, and you can make phone calls on
it as well by the way ...
So if you are interested in portable media access, this could be a good edition
of the magazine to listen to.
However in addition to that, the magazine contains an extremely in depth
comprehensive review of a product which many visually impaired people have been
discussing, which is the KNFB Reader.
Web sites state that the KNFB Reader will revolutionise the way you deal with
the avalanche of print you confront each day. They go onto report that
Technology that scans and reads printed material to the visually impaired is
nothing new but this revolutionary reader is the first truly handheld device to
do the job. Combining a state-of-the-art digital camera with a powerful
personal data assistant housed in a custom-designed attractive case, the KNFB
Reader puts the best available character recognition software together with
text-to-speech technology, all in the palm of your hand - and it's completely
mobile!
Our aim in this article is to give you a "real life" experience in terms of
what it is like to use this device on a day-to-day basis, which is why we have
thoroughly tested the unit scanning a variety of documents, tins of food,
literature, etc.
We hope subscribers will enjoy this month's programme.
