Melissa and I managed to get a few hours of birding in Friday and I was able
to do the same today. Here are the highlights from Jonathan Creek (JC),
Blood River (BR)and Kentucky Lake (KL).
Gadwall - JC & BR
Northern Shoveler - BR
Northern Pintail - 7-JC 65+ - BR
Green-winged Teal - BR
Lesser Scaup - KL
Black Scoter - 2 KL
Common Goldeneye - 100+ KL
Common Loon - KL
Horned Grebe - KL
Bald Eagle - 5 JC,BR & KL
Sharp-shinned Hawk - 1 JC
Least Sandpiper - JC & BR
Wilson's Snipe - JC & BR
Bonaparte's Gull - everywhere
Forster's Tern - JC & BR
Barred Owl - JC
Yellow-bellied Sapsucker - JC
Red-headed Woodpecker - KL
Cedar Waxwing - KL
Coyotes seem to be doing well on the mud flats this hunting season. A deer
carcass at Blood River has fed the pack and the vultures. Jonathan Creek
coyotes were ambling across the mud flat and weren't phased by two wet and
muddy
birders.
