Rhonda and I tallied some good numbers on common birds at Raven's Run
yesterday. Chickadees, yellow-rumps, and Golden-crowned Kinglets were
very plentiful as were Hermit Thrush. I had 7 Hermits in ones and twos
through the first 4 miles of hiking, then came upon a small flock of
them. I have never seen Hermit Thrush in a flock before. The dense
vegetation and lack of immediate recognition hampered in a good tally,
but there were at least 6 and probably twice that in the flock. Would
they be flocked for migration (pushed south by the cold front)? Also had
7 Red-tailed hawks (6 on the trip back), and once again had a Screech
Owl to respond to my owling during bright light.
