[birdky] Short Ears at Peabody/Sinclair/S-2

Today, during the 45 minutes before dark, we saw 10 short ears. Also, 8
harriers. Short ears were playing with, or you may as well say, attacking the
harriers. Frequently there were 4 to 6 owls in the air close together at the
same time. They were really active around 4:15 pm cst. A couple of owls flew
within 50 ft. of our pickup. This cold wx may be driving more south to
Paradise.....other nature observations: last week at Mammoth Cave Nat'l Park,
we saw 12 cave salamanders in one pile before they scattered. These salamanders
were at the inner door of Great Onyx Cave and they were there all four trips in
and out over two days. The last trip out of the cave I counted a dozen!
Tomorrow we hope to have success collecting cave beetles in an isolated "karst
island" cave in north Todd Co.
