Awhile ago I had about 20 Horned Larks, 3 Lapland Longspurs, and a female
Snow Bunting out in the cattle pasture on the family farm here in eastern
Jefferson County.  I'm afraid that the biggest group including the bunting
departed before I was able to get some cracked corn out in the field, but
hopefully they or more will return. When I left, 5 larks had found the corn
I put out. I'll update the listserve if anything interesting arrives in
numbers later.

Our part of Jefferson County has about 6-8 inches of snow/ice on the
ground. Main roads are decent; if you can get out of your driveway and
subdivision, you can probably make it up onto the farm OK to look for the
bunting in the next couple of days. I'll try to make sure some corn stays
out. The birds were between the silos and the second group of barns out in
the cattle pasture. Of course if they are here, they are probably
elsewhere, esp. north of the frozen precip line.

The Indian grass fields had a few patches of sparrows, riding the grass
heads down to the top of the snow to feed. This is excellent weather for a
redpoll :o)
